About Power Smile

Warm, prevention-first dentistry in South Surrey

We're a family and preventive dental practice in South Surrey and White Rock, led by Dr. Miral Hassan. Our whole approach is built around getting to know you, treating the cause — not just the symptom — and making every visit feel comfortable.

Our approach

Understand the cause, not just the symptom

Prevention-first dentistry that looks after your whole-body health — because a healthy smile starts long before the dental chair.

We treat the whole you, not just your tooth

Power Smile Dental Centre was built on a simple idea: your mouth is part of your body, and your body is part of your life. Instead of patching problems one filling at a time, we look at what's contributing to them — the habits, the nutrition, the wear patterns — so we can help you keep more of your natural teeth for longer.

That's what prevention-first really means to us. When something does need attention, we'd rather understand and address what's contributing to it than treat the same symptom again next year. It's a calmer, more conservative way to practise dentistry, and it can be gentler on both your teeth and your budget.

Care that doesn't feel like a dental office

From the moment you walk in, we want it to feel less like a clinic and more like a friend's living room — comfortable seating, warm faces, and absolutely no judgement about how long it's been since your last visit.

Whether you're a parent juggling a busy household, an adult who's been putting off care, or someone who feels nervous in the chair, you'll be met with patience and plain-language explanations. We take the time to get to know you, because when you feel comfortable coming to the dentist, it's easier to keep up with the care that keeps you healthy.

Our welcoming reception
come in, get comfy, stay a while

Prevention first

We focus on finding and addressing the factors contributing to dental problems, so small issues can be addressed early and you keep more of your natural smile.

Whole-body health

Nutrition, habits and overall wellness shape your oral health — so we talk about all of it, not just the tooth in front of us.

Conservative & gentle

We recommend the least invasive option that appropriately addresses the problem, and we keep every step comfortable and unrushed.

Dr. Miral Hassan

Founder & General Dentist · Helping families for 35+ years

Dr. Hassan believes dentistry is about far more than fixing teeth. For more than 35 years, she has helped families understand their oral health, make informed decisions, and protect their natural teeth for life.

Her philosophy is simple: the best treatment is often prevention, education, and a little early guidance — long before a small issue becomes a bigger one. Patients often describe her as calm, thorough and easy to talk to. She takes the time to explain what she sees, answer your questions, and help you feel comfortable about what happens next — no pressure, no judgement.

Long before the link between oral health and overall health became widely discussed, Dr. Hassan was helping patients understand the connections between the mouth and the rest of the body. That whole-person view still shapes every visit — because informed patients are better equipped to make decisions about their care, and a healthy mouth is an important part of overall health.

Beyond caring for patients, Dr. Hassan is committed to advancing the dental profession by teaching future dentists at UBC and helping review new dental research for BMC Oral Health, ensuring new findings meet high scientific standards before publication.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Hassan enjoys drawing and painting, and has authored and illustrated books that help both children and adults learn with confidence. She is the author of the Amazon bestselling PowerSMILE: 7 Steps to Increase Your Confidence, Health & Wellness Through Dentistry, and the illustrator and co-author of the children's book The Adventures of Chirpy: Chirpy's First Time Flying.

“You don't need to wait until something is wrong to protect your health.”

Advanced training

Advanced training in whole-body oral health

At Power Smile Dental, we believe a healthy mouth is an important part of a healthy body. That's why Dr. Miral Hassan completed advanced training through the BaleDoneen Method Preceptorship — an advanced educational program that explores the relationship between oral health, chronic inflammation, and overall wellness.

Most traditional dental education focuses on diagnosing and treating oral health problems. The BaleDoneen Method adds a broader perspective. It provides additional education in how gum health, oral bacteria, and inflammation relate to overall health, while emphasizing prevention, early detection, and risk reduction.

Why this matters for you

A growing body of research continues to explore the connection between oral health and overall well-being. Healthy gums, effective plaque control, and reducing oral inflammation are important parts of maintaining good oral health, which is an important part of overall wellness.

One of the reasons we're so passionate about prevention is that many serious dental and gum problems can begin quietly, long before they hurt. By the time you notice something is wrong, a small concern may have become a bigger problem.

For our patients, this means looking beyond individual teeth. We take the time to recognize early signs, identify potential risk factors, explain what we're seeing, and help you make informed decisions before problems become more difficult to manage.

For us, dentistry is about far more than fixing teeth. It's about helping you keep your gums healthy, preserve your natural teeth for as long as possible, and support a healthier smile — and a healthier life — for years to come.

Hygiene

Personalized prevention, directly with your dentist

At many dental practices, your dentist may see you for the exam while your regular hygiene care is provided separately. At Power Smile, our doctors believe hygiene visits are about more than simply cleaning your teeth — they're an important part of prevention.

That's why we choose to provide much of our patients' hygiene care ourselves. Spending that time with you gives us an opportunity to regularly monitor your teeth and gums, follow changes over time, and talk with you about the habits and risk factors that may be affecting your oral health.

For us, prevention isn't something separate from your dental care. It's part of how we care for you.

Hygiene care with your dentist
Periodontal specialist

Specialist gum care, right here in South Surrey

Having an in-house periodontal specialist means more advanced gum care can be provided in the same comfortable, familiar office, with your general dental team and periodontal specialist working together so your care stays connected.

Our periodontal specialist has advanced specialty training in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gum disease and conditions affecting the gums and bone that support your teeth. Care may include treatment for gum recession and bone loss, tissue grafting, bone and ridge procedures, and other specialized periodontal care.

Referred by another dentist? You're welcome here.

You don't need to be a regular Power Smile patient to receive periodontal care at our office. If you've been referred by another dentist, we'll work closely with them and keep them informed so your care stays connected.

If you're contacting us directly with concerns about your gum health, you're welcome too. We'll help you understand the appropriate next step.

Our goal is simple: help you keep your gums healthy and protect your natural teeth for life.

Explore our technology in depth

Pearl® AI-assisted X-ray review

AI helps review your X-rays alongside Dr. Hassan — a second set of eyes that helps highlight subtle findings and lets you see exactly what we see.

CEREC same-day crowns

Digital design and milling let us craft and place many crowns in a single visit — often meaning fewer appointments, digital impressions, and a more convenient experience from start to finish.

3D iTero digital scans

A comfortable digital scan creates a precise 3D model of your teeth without traditional impressions, helping us plan your care with greater clarity and accuracy.

VELscope oral-cancer screening

A quick, comfortable light-based screening helps us identify changes that may need a closer look — a simple step that's part of looking after your oral and overall health.

Panoramic & cephalometric X-rays (Pan & Ceph)

These specialized X-rays give us a broader view of your teeth, jaws, facial bones, and bite, helping us identify concerns and plan with greater accuracy.

Digital X-rays & intraoral camera

Digital imaging and a tiny camera let us show you exactly what we're seeing on screen, so you can make decisions with confidence.
