Gentle Tooth Removal When It's the Right Choice

We always try to save your natural teeth whenever possible. If there's a healthy way to save your tooth, that's almost always where we'll start. But now and then removing a tooth is the healthiest option. When that is the case, we take time to explain why, keep you comfortable, work gently, and help you understand your options for replacing the tooth if needed, so you can protect your bite, your smile, and your long-term oral health.

When a tooth may need to come out

Removing a tooth is a last resort, but sometimes it is the right option to protect your overall oral health, comfort, and the surrounding teeth. We will always explain why, show you what we are seeing, and make sure you understand your options before recommending treatment.

  • A tooth with severe decay or damage beyond repair
  • Advanced gum disease that has left the tooth loose
  • A broken tooth below the gumline
  • A serious infection that cannot be cleared with other treatment
  • Crowding, as part of an orthodontic treatment plan

What the appointment is like

We numb the area fully and, for nervous patients, sedation may also be an option. Many removals are more comfortable than people expect. You may feel some pressure but not pain, and we work gently to protect the bone and gums around the tooth to support healing.

Afterward, we'll go over how to look after the area — including handling any bleeding, what to eat, and how to keep it clean while it heals. We will also answer your questions and check that you are comfortable before you head home.

Replacing the tooth

Leaving a gap can let nearby teeth drift and slowly change your bite. We'll walk you through replacement options that fit your needs and budget — whether that's a dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture. Replacing the tooth early can help protect your bite, your smile, and the health of your remaining teeth over the long term.

Why patients choose Power Smile

Saving teeth comes first

We look at every option to save your natural tooth, and only suggest removing it when that is the healthiest option for your long-term oral health.

Gentle and comfortable

We never rush your care. Thorough numbing, a gentle approach, and sedation when appropriate help you feel comfortable from start to finish.

A plan to replace your tooth

We will walk you through your options, including implants, bridges, or partials, so the gap does not lead to shifting or bite problems later.

Clear, supportive aftercare

You will know exactly how to care for the area, and you'll know how to reach us if you have any questions or concerns.

Frequently asked questions

Does having a tooth pulled hurt?+

We numb the area thoroughly, so you should feel pressure but not pain during the procedure. Sedation may be an option if it's appropriate for you and you're feeling anxious. Afterward, mild soreness for a few days is normal and is usually easy to manage with the aftercare instructions we provide and over-the-counter pain relief, if needed.

How much does a tooth extraction cost in BC?+

Tooth extractions follow the BC Dental Association Fee Guide, but the treatment required depends on the condition and position of the tooth.

Some teeth are straightforward to remove, while others are broken, impacted, or require a more complex procedure.

During your visit, we'll examine your tooth, take any necessary digital X-rays, explain exactly what's involved, and provide a written treatment plan and estimate before you decide whether to proceed. If an examination fee applies, we'll let you know before your appointment.

You'll never be asked to agree to treatment without first understanding what we recommend, why we recommend it, and what it will cost. We'll help you understand your insurance or CDCP coverage, explain payment options if they're available, and make sure you understand every cost before treatment begins.

Still have questions? We'd be happy to explain your treatment options and answer any questions before you make your decision.

Do I need to replace the tooth afterward?+

In many cases, yes. A gap can let the nearby teeth shift and affect your bite over time. We will walk you through options like an implant, bridge, or partial denture, so you can choose the solution that suits you best.

How long does it take to heal?+

The gum usually closes over within a couple of weeks, while the bone continues to heal underneath for several weeks or months. We will give you clear aftercare instructions, and if you have any questions or concerns, we're here to help.

Can you sedate me for the procedure?+

Yes. We offer sedation options for patients who are feeling anxious, when appropriate. Just let us know how you're feeling, and we will walk you through your options and make a plan to help keep you as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

Ready when you are.
